Telehouse Europe has announced Enhanced Connect, an overlaid optimization service designed to give faster remote access to centralized cloud applications. The new service takes existing Internet connections and improves their performance, so distributed organizations can connect to central services that are located in the Telehouse facility in London’s Docklands, without having to increase their bandwidth. The service is based on optimization technology from Aryaka.

Recently,Gary Sevounts had a very interesting discussion his engineering wizards at Aryaka, after an unsurprisingly well-attended screening of the original Star Wars trilogy at the company’s headquarters. The discussion was about how modern cutting-edge technology trends like advanced robotics, AI, nanotechnology, next-gen communications, etc. could have been featured in the earlier movies.

The growing SD-WAN movement received a lot of attention at this week’s Open Networking User Group show, with four vendors demonstrating proof-of-concepts that not only showcased their platforms, but also how they could work with other companies.

So, what does the next-generation WAN look like? In an attempt to answer this question,Steve Martin looks back in time, to see how the WAN has evolved so far. The evolution of the WAN has followed the evolution of enterprises, in general, and their changing business requirements.

CenturyLink opened the application process for its annual Teachers and Technology grant program. Full-time pre-kindergarten through grade 12 classroom teachers in public or private schools within CenturyLink’s local service areas can apply for a grant of up to $5,000 until Jan. 12, 2016. The funds are meant to help teachers use technology in an innovative way to increase student achievement.

There’s plenty of talk about software-defined WAN and shifting some of the traffic off of traditional MPLS connections to the public Internet, but Aryaka Networks’ founder and CTO believes the next generation WAN is a hybrid where only the last mile is actually using the public Internet.

WAN as-a-service company Aryaka has signed a distribution agreement with Avant Communications to provide its WAN solutions to the company’s reseller ecosystem in North America.The partnership is expected to expand Aryaka’s channel business and give Avant’s resellers access to an alternative to traditional WAN solutions and MPLS infrastructures, according to the announcement.

In an effort to grow its enterprise base, Aryaka tapped Chicago-based Avant Communications Inc. to sell its cloud-based, WAN optimization and network as a service offerings to customers.

Aryaka has formalized the agreement with AVANT as part of its partner program. The partnership will expand Aryakas channel business, while allowing AVANT to offer its customers a next generation WAN that combines enterprise-grade performance and Internet-like simplicity a private, fast lane to the cloud.

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) directs data in high-performance telecommunication networks, but increasingly companies are finding it is not able to perform to the standards that is required in today’s low latency ecosystem. For companies that require information in real time, this can be a very expensive problem.
